It has been a great privilege for me to represent the people of the Hemel Hempstead constituency in Parliament for the past ten years.
After the General Election in 2010 we inherited an economic nightmare from Labour. Now, five years on, the UK is one of the fastest growing economies in the G7. This is great news because it means more businesses creating more jobs – and more people with the security of a wage to provide for themselves and their families. Here in Hemel Hempstead, with a great deal of help and inspiring initiatives from our Conservative council, the number of local people on Job Seekers Allowance has fallen to below 2%.
But we cannot take this recovery for granted. With rising economic instability abroad, Britain faces a clear choice on the economy at this election. We can either stick with the long-term economic plan that’s working; or we can risk everything we’ve achieved together in the last five years with Ed Miliband propped up by the SNP.
We will increase spending on the NHS. But again, you can only spend more money if you have a strong economy to pay for it.
Locally, we will see more services at Hemel hospital and I will continue to campaign for a new state-of-the –art hospital on a new site with room for expansion – and parking.
Our welfare reforms are giving people back their dignity, with those in work better off than those on benefits. It is right to support everyone who works hard to achieve their aspirations.
Despite these huge successes, there is still a great deal to do to eliminate the deficit and start repaying the national debt instead of leaving it to our children and grandchildren. Only a Conservative government can be trusted to bring this about.
On the EU, the Conservatives are the only party that promise an In-Out Referendum in the next two years.
This is the closest election for a generation. The consequences of this election for our country are so great. It is vital for our children, grandchildren and our country’s future that we elect the right government.
I thank you for your continued support and urge you to vote Conservative tomorrow. Let’s get a Conservative Government in office.
